CINEMATIC ARCHITECTURE: ARGLETON
This edition of the elective Cinematic Architecture was titled Through The Eyes of Machines. The goal of this design exercise was to critically question socio-technological conditions in our society (e.g. automation, computerization, communication,...) and their impact on our architectural observations / representations. The final project for the elective investigates the phenomenon of a digital 'phantom settlement' called Argleton. In collaboration with Lien De Saegher and Stef Vlaminck, I imagined and modeled this classic English village that only exists online. We witness the town's operating system, slowly shutting down when it realises it's being watched. The final aesthetics and experiments were scraped from Google Maps and combined using Blender 2.81 Eevvee. It was my first introduction to the software and resulted in me pursuing the engagement Mediating Tactics.
